At Red Valley Retrievers, our Mini Goldens are carefully bred to combine the loving, family-oriented personality of the Golden Retriever with a smaller, more manageable size for many households. Our goal is to produce healthy, well-socialized companions that are capable of fitting into a wide variety of lifestyles while maintaining the friendly temperament Golden Retrievers are known for.
What Is a Mini Golden?
A Mini Golden is a thoughtfully developed cross between a Golden Retriever and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that is then bred through multiple generations to create a more consistent type. While every puppy is unique, most of our Mini Goldens mature smaller than a traditional Golden Retriever while retaining the affectionate, people-focused nature that makes Goldens such beloved family dogs.
Because genetics can vary, adult size, coat color, and appearance may differ from puppy to puppy. We provide estimated adult size ranges whenever possible, but no breeder can guarantee an exact adult weight.
Health & Early Development
Our breeding dogs undergo extensive health testing before being included in our program. We place a strong emphasis on temperament, structure, and overall health.
Our puppies are raised in our home and receive daily handling from birth. They are introduced to a variety of age-appropriate experiences designed to help build confidence and prepare them for life with their new families. We also begin Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) during the critical newborn period.

Families interested in currently available puppies can visit our Available Mini Golden Puppies page to view photos, litter information, and individual puppy descriptions. Availability changes frequently as families place reservations, so we recommend reaching out promptly if a particular puppy catches your eye.
Upcoming Litters
We regularly announce planned and expected Mini Golden litters throughout the year. Upcoming litter information will be posted as breeding plans are confirmed and pregnancy is verified.
If you are interested in a future puppy but do not see current availability, joining our waitlist is often the best option.
Our Waitlist Process
Our Mini Golden program operates from a Master Waitlist.
- Submit a puppy application for approval.
- Once approved, families may place a non-refundable $500 reservation fee to secure their position on our Master Waitlist.
- When puppies become available, families are contacted in reservation order.
- Reservation fees are applied toward the purchase price of your puppy.
- Waitlist reservations remain active for one year from the date they are placed unless we are unable to offer you a puppy during that time.
Joining the waitlist allows families access to future litters before puppies are publicly advertised.
Puppy Selection
Puppy selections are made in reservation order. Once puppies are old enough for evaluations and individual personalities begin to emerge, families are invited to choose their puppy based on their placement on the reservation list.
Pricing
Our Mini Golden puppies are currently priced at $5,000 plus applicable California sales tax. A $500 reservation fee is required to secure a puppy or waitlist position and is applied toward the final purchase price.

I’ve never heard of a "Mini Golden" before! Can you tell me more?
Mini Goldens are known by many different names depending on what breeder is creating them. They are a lesser-known variation of the traditional Golden Retriever, created by responsibly crossing Golden Retrievers with smaller breeds like Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Cocker Spaniels, with some breeders preferring a touch of Poodle to maintain their loving temperament and intelligence in a more compact size. While they aren’t an official breed, they’re growing in popularity for families or individuals who want the classic Golden Retriever charm but prefer a smaller, more manageable dog for their lifestyle.
Our program emphasizes breeding for health, temperament, and conformation, so you get all the wonderful qualities you’d expect in a Golden Retriever but tailored to fit a wider range of homes and lifestyles. What Makes a Red Valley Mini Golden?
Our Mini Goldens, sometimes also referred to as Golden Cavaliers, are a carefully crafted mix of two exceptional breeds: the loyal and intelligent Golden Retriever and the gentle, loving Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. This unique blend is designed to bring the best of both worlds -- retaining the iconic Golden Retriever personality while offering a more manageable size. Mini Goldens inherit the Golden's trainability, enthusiasm, and affectionate nature, beautifully complimented by the Cavalier's adaptable temperament, spunky enthusiasm, and cuddly charm. The result is a smaller, well-rounded companion perfect for families, singles, or anyone seeking a dog with the heart of a Golden in a smaller package.
*Please note: We cannot guarantee an exact height or weight as many things come into play when you breed two different sized breeds of dogs. However, we can guesstimate our mini's will be around 25lbs to 45lbs. While that range may not mean "mini" to some, we consider that a mini version of their parent breed the Golden Retriever whose weight ranges from 55lbs-75lbs per the AKC's breed standard. Therefore, that is how we deemed them "Mini Goldens" as a fun way to describe them. We have always intended for similar, and not identical as that would be impossible to do and will not claim to do so. *
Are mini goldens good with children?
Yes! Mini Goldens are generally excellent with children! Thanks to their heritage, they inherit traits that make them wonderful companions for families with kids. Here's why:
1. Gentle Nature: The Cavalier is known for its sweet, patient disposition, which helps balance the high energy of a Golden Retriever. This combination results in a gentle and affectionate dog that's naturally good around children.
2. Playful and Fun-loving: Mini Goldens tend to share the Golden Retrievers love for play, making them great for active families who enjoy outdoor activities and interactive games.

*A Note on Supervision: As with any dog, interactions between young children and Mini Goldens should always be supervised, especially during the puppy stage when the dog is still learning boundaries.
